System of evaluation
How each school assesses, from continuous assessment to co-evaluated capstones.
At Chandigarh University, we believe that assessment is a crucial part of the learning process — not just a measure of what you've learned, but a way to enhance your educational journey and prepare you for the challenges of the real world. Our innovative assessment practices are designed to align with our commitment to personalized learning, ensuring that every student can thrive and reach their full potential. Through a variety of engaging, practical, and reflective assessment methods, we aim to equip our students with the skills, knowledge, and mindset needed for success in their chosen fields.
- Formative and Summative Assessments
- Formative assessment involves evaluation by quiz, assignments, and dissertations to monitor student learning while summative assessment evaluates overall achievement at the end of a course through exams or final projects.
- Project-Based Assessments
- Evaluation of student’s creativity by their appropriate applications of biological solutions against real-world problems.
- Competency assessment
- It evaluates student’s ability to apply theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and ethical reasoning in real-world or lab-based scenarios. It focuses on measurable outcomes like lab proficiency, data analysis, communication, and teamwork.
- Digital Portfolios
- The focus is to systematically document and showcase each student's academic, co-curricular, and research achievements. This provides a comprehensive record of their skills, progress, and accomplishments throughout the course.
- Simulation-Based Evaluation
- To engage students in solving real-world biotechnology problems through interactive virtual labs and simulation tools. This enhances practical understanding and critical thinking without the constraints of physical lab settings.
- Field to Lab Concept Mapping
- To help students link real-life field data with lab-based experimentation, reinforcing conceptual clarity. It encourages a systems-thinking approach for deeper insight into complex biotechnological processes.
- AI-Enhanced Grading Tools
- Implementing tools like Gradescope, Turnitin AI, and eval.ai for assessing students activity for critical thinking, remembering the lesson and application of the theoretical lectures.
- Viva-voce
- Assess verbal articulation of theory, technical and understanding of the subject which further encourages spontaneous reasoning and helps evaluate clarity, confidence, and subject mastery.
- Group Discussions and Debates
- Group discussions and debates develop critical thinking by encouraging students to analyze, question, and defend ideas in a collaborative environment. This enhances communication skills and promotes deeper understanding through peer interaction.
